Summer Institute Director Drew Beiter with Rwandan teachers
In the summer of 2011, Summer Institute Director Andrew Beiter organized and co-chaired a conference in Kigali for 30 Rwandan teachers about the Holocaust, the 1994 Genocide, and the power of teachers to repair the world.  Modeled after the Summer Institute, the three day event was sponsored by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the American Federation of Teachers, and the New York State United Teachers, among others.

Known as the "Educators' Institute for Human Rights", the organization hopes to do similar conferences for under served teachers in other recovering areas, including Bosnia, Cambodia, and again in Rwanda. For pictures, video, and more information, please click here.
